Union Flooring

The brief

Union Flooring fits carpet, LVT, vinyl and safety flooring for homes and businesses. Sam Hunt runs it. Its first website was built on a ready-made block theme. It had the right words and photos, but the layout belonged to the theme.

Sam’s business card already had a strong look. Pure black, bold white capitals, a thick white rule under the name and outlined diamonds running off the edge. We wanted the website to feel like the card.

What we kept

• Every service, photo, review and supplier logo.
• The logo, the strapline “Excellence in every step” and the black, red and green colours.
• The contact form and the inbox its enquiries go to.

What changed

The site now runs on a theme written for Union Flooring alone, styled after the business card. Bebas Neue capitals, white rules, plain white icons and photos cut into diamonds.

The logo mark is four planks wrapped round a centre square. The home page opens on a whole floor of them in perspective. Each plank drops into place in a wave across the screen. A soft light follows the pointer. A few units are picked out in the logo’s silver and green, so small logos sit in the floor.

As you scroll, diamond tiles drop into the margins of each section, like the diamonds on the card.

A new section follows one room over three days, from levelling compound to herringbone. Our work has 35 photos with filters for LVT, carpet, stairs, vinyl, subfloor and commercial work. Every photo opens larger. On phones a bar along the bottom keeps Call Sam and Free quote in reach.

Easy to update

Services, work photos, reviews and brands each have their own screen in WordPress, with a photo column and a set order. Phone, email, social links and the home page words sit under Appearance › Customise. Anyone who prefers less movement on screen gets the finished floor without the animation.
